Philip L. Richardson, Owner My educational background includes earning a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management from PennsylvaniaStateUniversity, a Masters of Science Degree, in Management from the New School for Social Research and a Masters of Science Degree in Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning.. I have always believed that success in math was one of the keys to being successful in life. Success in life can be traced to effective problem solving and the foundation to solving problems begins with math. Teachers today are asked to perform miracles everyday in their classrooms. You won’t find a bigger supporter of teachers and what they have to go through than me. Shrinking education budgets, larger class sizes and classroom distractions can be causing your child to be left behind. With up to 30 students in a class, how can a teacher provide the one-on-one attention that every child needs in order to be successful? Teachers do their best, but cannot be expected to perform miracles!
Supplementing the school work at home may not be a good option either. Where do you start? How do you know you’re helping and not hurting? When was the last time you multiplied fractions or calculated the area of a cone or polygon?
That’s why we started The Math Factory: to meet the challenge of supplementing math education in a fun and meaningful way. I knew there had to be a better way to help my own children succeed without making it feel like punishment for my kids and torture for me.
Students at the Math Factory get the attention they need to be successful in math and their grades will reflect it. In fact, your student’s teacher will want to know the secret to your child’s new math scores. Its okay, you can tell them your child got “Brained at the Math Factory”. We won’t mind.
Cathy Y. Richardson, Owner
I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition from Syracuse University and a Master Degree in Management from the New School for Social Research.
I became interested in the concept of The Math Factory after watching my own children struggle with their math homework. It was discouraging when my daughter came home and announced: “I hate math.” I believe no child really hates math. Rather, they are confused and frustrated by it.
Realizing that I couldn't be alone in my desire to get help for my kids, I reviewed some of the traditional resources and discovered it would cost a small fortune to use one of the big chain tutoring businesses. They wanted assessment fees, enrollment fees, a complicated contract locking us into a long term commitment. Private tutors were available but they didn't have the sophisticated resources and you had to be available when they were, which very often was at a time inconvenient to me.
Utilizing my husband’s business expertise and combining it with all of the features I wanted to see in a tutoring business, we created The Math Factory. We have the only drop-in tutoring business with NO assessment fees, NO contracts, sophisticated resources, a low monthly fee and you can attend at your convenience.
Our goal is to introduce the Math Factory method to the students and parents of Lancaster County and watch them grow and succeed in confidence.
I hope you'll stop by and review how we can help your child. After all at The Math Factory we: Make Sense of Math!
